Coffee Story

Shantawene Ethiopia is a fruit-forward natural process coffee that is delightfully balanced but still lively and bright — tropical fruits, bright raspberries, and agave sweetness that keeps things lively from first sip to last.

The coffee comes from Shantawene Village in the Bensa District of Sidama, where brothers Asefa and Mulugeta Dukamo founded Daye Bensa in 2006. What started as a family-run mill has grown into one of Ethiopia's most respected coffee operations — their Shantawene mill took 7th place in Ethiopia's inaugural Cup of Excellence competition, and the quality has only climbed from there. This lot is a collection from 940 farmers in the village, all processed at the Gafissa mill under the Dukamo family's watch.

We recommend buying whole bean coffee and grinding fresh. Here's a good place to start dialing in your coffee with your grinder.
